Broken Germany WWII
When assigned this project in Drawing 1, the theme to follow was “Disaster.” Initially, I knew I had to finish a drawing that had been started but not fully completed. Freshman year, I drew just the soldier throwing the grenade, but never got the time to add in the background, allowing “Disaster”, I had the chance to finish what had already started. The first roadblock was that the original was not on big enough paper, but that sparked the idea of cutting out the grenade and the soldier and mounting them to the proper sized paper which then gave me the ability to provide a 3D effect by mounting the grenade to foam core to help pop it off the page more. Using minimal references and exploring my abilities, the background came to life, filling the foreground and background with visual narrative.
Gernade is mounted on foamcore to give a more 3D effect and pop off the page more.
The soldier in the bottom right is also mounted on foam core, but not on foam core, for a less drastic 3D look.
